Discovery Thursday: Projects Interface

Welcome to yet another edition of Discovery Thursday! Here’s where we will show and tell how to take advantage of all the various reports and features within SEMrush.

Many users know SEMrush for our reliable data for SEO and PPC reports. But many do not know about or take advantage of the powerful Projects Interface. When digital marketers conduct their work, they usually want to have reporting readily available for each website at the click of a button. Having your client’s information laid out in front of you all in one centralized place can become very advantageous. Where can you get this information? Well, let me introduce you to SEMrush’s Projects Interface.

Located in the left hand sidebar under the Projects selection, the Projects dashboard can map out all of the projects under your account. A Project is basically a domain you choose and set up to access tools provided in the Projects interface. The number of projects you can save depends on your subscription level with SEMrush:

  • Free Level: 1 Project
  • Pro Level: 5 Projects
  • Guru Level: 50 Projects
  • Business Level: Unlimited Projects

So, essentially, each project is a domain or client that you are working with. The number of projects you need will help determine what subscription level works best for you.

When you first navigate to this page, you will notice each project you have created listed along with each tool that the project can access. You have the option of selecting which tool you would like to select as your Favorite Tool. This makes your desired tool appear bigger in the projects list than the other tools. This option is located in the top left of your screen. Next to this option is a sorting feature allowing you to sort how your Projects appear. Choose from project name, Site Health, Site Health Last Update, Visibility, Position Tracking Last Update, or by Optimization Ideas. If you are a Guru or Business level user, you may find the search bar to your right useful so that you can search for your desired projects.

Once selecting these options you will notice all of the tools that your project can access. You can choose to include the following tools:

  • Site Audit
  • Position Tracking
  • SEO Ideas
  • Social Media tool
  • Brand Monitoring

To learn more about any of these tools, please review our Manual

(Also, you can expect this list of tools to grow! We are constantly developing new tools and features you need to help achieve your goals.)

If you have never set up any of these tools for a new or existing project, your screen will look like the following:

You can set up any of these tools directly from the Projects Interface. Simply click the set up icon and you will notice a popup on your screen providing you with the configuration for the given tool.

Listed to the right of these projects are two options.

The first is Share Projects. This option allows you to share your projects with other SEMrush users. However, if you are going to use this option, please keep in mind that this will only work for users with a paid subscription with SEMrush. The user sharing the project must have a paid subscription, however, they can share this project with free level users. This will give Read-only access to the account you are sharing the project with. This feature can become very valuable if you are looking to provide to reporting to your clients. If you work at an agency, you can share this project with your clients so that they can see this data at any time. Also, you do not have to worry about the client going into the project and changing anything around since they have Read-only access.

The second option listed here is the Settings gear. This will allow you to edit the name of your project or to delete your project. It is important to note two things here:

  1. Once you create a project, you cannot change the domain for the project. You would need to delete the project and create a new one if you wish to track a different domain.
  2. It is not possible to select tools to remove from a project. If you click the delete button for a tool, it will delete the entire project. All of your data associated with this project will be lost.

If you would like to view a dashboard for a single project, simply click on the project name in the Projects dashboard. This will redirect you to a individual domain dashboard that will break down each tool specific to your project. In order to go to any of these tools, simply click the numbers shown in these boxes for the given tool.

The Projects Interface is a great way to keep track of all of your campaigns as well as help you improve your marketing strategies. You be able to quickly analyze your progress as well as keep your clients or bosses constantly in the loop on their websites.
