What would you recommend for a blog focused on building authority for the authors?

I've convinced an old friend to that and am working with him to outline the strategy for the website and blog. My focus is on five things:
1. Valuable and highly niche specific content. Stunning content would at it's core.
2. Content clusters that add depth to the website. I want to wide going wide on the blog and experiment with landing pages that link to further sub-pages.
3. Smart internal linking for longer time on the blog.
4. Email lists, highly segment and optimized for user intent on page
5. Email marketing with newsletter curation for email blasts and drip campaigns.

Social media marketing is a given for community building. What else would you and others present here recommend?

I'll be straight on one thing: camera shyness, so for the next 6 months atleast webinars are off the table for him. So, yes. I'm stuck with these two areas for now:
-Visualizing and mapping a funnel
-Qualified leads

Really good piece. The one thing I think it's missing is something about the introduction, specifically the first paragraph. There's a lot of thought goes into headlines but the introductory paragraph is where the reader decides whether to go further.

Journalism has nailed this long ago and now content marketers are beginning to understand. If you're interested this piece outlines all the basic rules.
