The SEMrush Podcast on Podcasting

A podcast and theme week would hardly be complete without a podcast on podcasting. I ask webinar host, educator and actor Peter Starr Northrop all about podcasting best practices in our latest SearchCast episode.

We discuss the basics of how to start your own podcast, including:

  • How you can use your previous work experience to help you podcast successfully
  • Where you should host and publish a podcast
  • The scope of your podcast: should you stick to your niche?
  • Podcast promotion
  • Harnessing your existing audience and community
  • Public speaking tips
  • Recommended podcasting equipment

Hey Peter, totally relate to your experience re Catholic "be quiet" thing! lol. Only catching this now but good show guys, great energy Peter!

For out in the field I use a Roland R-05. The sound quality is awesome right from the built in mic on the recorder. For the studio I use Rode Podcaster mic and sound quality is very good.

I've got the Podcaster mic fitted to a Rode boom arm but it's crappy and it does my brain in. I need to get a better quality one...

Thanks for the mention Tara!

Re ways to get the show out to blog readers; Do you guys get a separate podcast rss feed to go out to your email list every time you publish?

Re talking to yourself; Yes, talk to yourself all the time, don't worry about looking crazy! My wife knows I'm crazy.

Re Philly Cheesesteak; Man, it's so long since I had a cheesesteak sandwich, 10 years I reckon. Stick one in the post to me will ya.... I dont care if it takes a week to get here... lol
